Mikhail Tal is one of the greatest Chess tactician ever and his contribution to the game of chess and to make it more spectacular sport is immense. Mikhail Tal was a Latvian and his name in his language was written as: Mihails Tāls while in Russian (then part of the USSR) it is written as: Михаил Нехемьевич Таль, Michail Nechem’evič Tal, [mʲixʌˈiɫ nʲɪˈxɛmʲɪvʲit͡ɕ ˈtal]. His name is also sometimes transliterated into western European languages and in English as Mihails Tals or Mihail Tal. He was born on November 9, 1936 and died on June 28, 1992. He is the strongest Latvian chess player till date. He was among first few Soviet-Latvian Grandmasters, and the eighth World Chess Champion, highest title one can achieve in Chess according to FIDE.
He was such a great player and a true champion that in his memory The Mikhail Tal Memorial is held in Moscow each year since 2006. Mikhail was often called “Misha”, a diminutive for Mikhail, and “The magician from Riga” for his daring combinatorial style and tactical play on the baord. Both The Mammoth Book of the World’s Greatest Chess Games (Burgess, Nunn & Emms 2004) and Modern Chess Brilliancies (Evans 1970) include more games by Mikhail Tal than any other player. He was also a highly-regarded chess writer and a journalist. His autobiographical book “Life and Games of Mikhail Tal” is very famous among chess lovers.
